Lenten Retreat: The Hope of Easter
Lent is a time set aside each year for Christian reflection and purification. The Hope of Easter is the message of 1 John 3:3, “And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.” You are invited to join me as we take the journey of inner purification. How do we purify ourselves and become more like Jesus, “taking the very nature of a servant and emptying ourselves?” (Philippians 2:5-7)
During this three-hour morning retreat, we will follow in the footsteps of Jesus of Nazareth as he entered the desert, the garden and the empty tomb. We will learn to “let go of everything that is not God in order to be available for nothing but God.” This purification process includes letting go of fears, doubts, insecurities, negative thinking, OLD WOUNDS, releasing repressed emotions and any other disordered attachments.
The morning is designed to help you deepen your relationship with God and discover the universal truth of God’s love for you through scripture and silence. You will learn several meditation practices: body focusing, guided imagery with scripture and a lectio divina practice.
You will also learn how meditation can rewire your brain for more love and compassion.
In deepening your relationship with God, God will reveal his ongoing plan for your life, a plan to encourage you to align your will with God’s will. This is a journey of Hope, an unshakable confidence, in God’s plan for us. As Jeremiah (29:11) says, “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with HOPE.”
